  • Behind the Collaboration: Marie Veronique x Rose Los Angeles

As part of the partnership between MARIE VERONIQUE and ROSE LOS ANGELES, Kristina Holey, Director of Skin Health at Marie Veronique, joined Rose Los Angeles founder Nathan Cozzolino in a conversation about the skin health benefits of CBD, Rose's ingredient-driven approach, its alignment with Marie Veronique's formulation process, and the values both brands share.

Kristina Holey (KH): What made you excited about collaborating with Marie Veronique, and how do you see your ingredient philosophy aligning with our approach to skin health?
Nathan Cozzolino (NC): Our initial excitement stemmed from the fact that we are fans of Marie Veronique products in our household and use them almost exclusively. In terms of our alignment, we both believe in delegating to nature and are motivated to pursue the best quality possible from that approach.

KH: In your opinion, how does the integrity of Rose's rosin enhance the benefits of Body Barrier Emulsion?
NC: We use only gentle heat and pressure to extract the therapeutic compounds from the flower, without the use of chemical solvents. It's the opposite of industrial extraction, both in approach and effects, and we think it does the best job of mirroring the properties of the flower in its original form.

KH: Rose Los Angeles is known for working with highly skilled farmers and your creative collaborations. What qualities do you look for to make sure they'll deliver real benefits for the body?
NC: We have a deep respect for the cannabis plant, and have benefited from its healing properties and the comfort it offers for decades. We take responsibility for both the cultivation and extraction of our flower and don't delegate to third parties. Because we grow our flower well and extract it responsibly, we know that every input in our products meets our quality standards; this is a key differentiator.

While we enjoy collaborating with talented farmers, this isn’t a marketing exercise, as is often the case in the consumer packaged goods space. We operate in a truly hands-on, farm-to-package way to ensure the quality, experience, and effects of our products are among the best available.

KH: How do your partnerships with small, regenerative farms influence the potency and purity of the ingredients you create?
NC: Whenever we source ingredients from a farm in our network, whether for edibles or flower, we first learn the story of the property. We know our ingredients intimately, not just because traceability is non-negotiable, but because they serve as a source of inspiration.

KH: What happens to the plant's natural compounds, like antioxidants, terpenes, and other phytonutrients, when you use this method, and how might those help support skin health?
NC: Through our specific extraction process, a greater percentage of the flower’s therapeutic compounds remain intact compared to chemical extraction. We believe this method enhances bioavailability, and we use it because we find it strengthens the beneficial effects of both the extract and the finished products.

KH: Many CBD products use isolates, but you focus on keeping the whole plant profile intact. Why does a full-spectrum rosin matter for efficacy?
NC: The plant's compounds work well when kept together and aren’t as effective when isolated. Overly heavy-handed extraction breaks the plant’s natural integrity, and research increasingly shows that it can compromise its therapeutic potential.

KH: Can you explain why preserving a variety of plant compounds might make a topical product more effective?
NC: Research is still evolving, but anyone with our experience working with the cannabis plant knows that the flower in its most natural form offers the greatest benefits to both animals and humans.

KH: How do you test your rosin to make sure it's free from pesticides, heavy metals, or other contaminants that could irritate skin?
NC: We send all our products to third-party labs for analysis at multiple points during production, a standard protocol for any reputable company in the cannabis industry.

KH: Do you see more skincare brands moving toward full-spectrum CBD as more people learn about the benefits for skin health?
NC: Using quality extract is expensive, and most consumer packaged goods prioritize profit. As a result, few companies put in the effort to achieve this level of quality. There may be some, but not many.
